Liverpool fans have had a good few weeks of fun over Manchester United supporters. The Reds have finally won the Premier League and they have earned plaudits from the biggest names in world football for the way they did it.
Jurgen Klopp is now hailed by many as the best manager in the world for what he has done at Anfield over the last two years. Winning the Champions League and the Premier League in back-to-back seasons is no small feat and he deserves all the praise he gets.
The Liverpool boss was awarded the LMA Manager of the Year award on Tuesday and Klopp received some special praise from a legend from the enemy camp.
Klopp woke Sir Alex up at half-past three in the morning
Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had some really kind words to say about Klopp, despite the Liverpool boss waking him up at 3:30 in the morning after they won the league.
Ferguson told Sky Sports: “The winner, Jurgen Klopp. Jurgen, fantastic. I speak about Leeds United and 16 years in the Championship, Liverpool 30 years since winning that league is incredible.
“You really thoroughly deserved it. Your performance level of your team was fantastic. Your personality runs right through the whole club. I think it was a marvellous performance.
“I will forgive you for waking me up in the morning at half-past three to tell me you won the league! Thank you. You thoroughly deserved it, well done.”
That, indeed, is some mammoth praise for the Liverpool boss. Ferguson, a 13-time Premier League champion himself, has been there and done it all during his dominant reign as Manchester United boss.
Klopp still has a long way to go before he can be spoken of in the same breath as Ferguson. But his achievement at Liverpool over the last five years deserves huge credit nonetheless.
