Aston Villa right-back Frédéric Guilbert has taken to his Instagram following the 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Bristol City.
It was the Frenchman’s first appearance of the campaign, and he did extremely well. The 25-year-old earned the WhoScored Man of the Match award for his performance.
However, he may have been playing for his future.
France Football recently reported that Guilbert is being pushed towards the exit door. He has already slipped down the pecking order following Matty Cash’s arrival.
L’Equipe (via GFFN) reported that Villa want just €5 million (£4.6 million) for the player they signed as recently as January of last year.
However, the former Caen man isn’t going down without a fight.

After Thursday’s win, he posted the following on Instagram.
”Even if it’s difficult at the moment, I will fight to the end for this jersey 🙏🏼 No one will kill me, they will only make me stronger.’
His attitude is commendable, and it would be a shame to see him go.
Guilbert is quite clearly still a competent member of Dean Smith’s squad, given his Man of the Match display against Bristol City.

It seems strange that Villa would want to offload him so shortly after signing Cash.
A bit of healthy competition for the role wouldn’t go amiss, and the Frenchman has proven with his Instagram message that he’s more than up for the fight.
