Garth Crooks has written on BBC Sport that he was not surprised to see Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford get injured against Chelsea at the weekend.
Leeds played out a goalless draw with Chelsea at Elland Road in the Premier League this past Saturday afternoon
Bamford suffered an injury in the game after colliding with Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger and had to be substituted in the 35th minute.
Former Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion forward Crooks has said that he was not surprised that Bamford hurt himself in the collision with Rudiger because of the Chelsea defender, whom he has included in his BBC Premier League Team of the Week.
Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “When I saw Patrick Bamford limp off the pitch at Elland Road after a collision with Antonio Rudiger, I wasn’t surprised.
“Most players who come into contact with Rudiger know that they have been in a game. Since the German international returned to the Chelsea line-up, their goal against tally has been as good as any defence in the league.”
Holding their own
While Rudiger played well at the back for Chelsea, Leeds held their own and picked up a point from the encounter.
Chelsea have a much stronger team, and Leeds should be proud of themselves for playing their natural way against them and still keeping a clean sheet.
As for Bamford, the striker reportedly suffered a dead leg and is unlikely to be on the sidelines.
