Roy Keane has hit out at Ian Wright for admitting that he would touch Liverpool’s ‘This is Anfield’ sign and labelled it ‘childish’, as he told ITV Sport.

The former striker shared that he would touch it during his days as a player when he would go out for a warm-up.

There is a tradition from Jurgen Klopp that, not until you win a trophy as a Liverpool player, can you touch that sign.

Well, after their League Cup final triumph at Wembley over the weekend, there will be a fair few who can now do it.

But, when Wright shared that he used to do it as an opposing player himself, it’s no surprise that Manchester United’s former captain was having none of it.

“Of course (I touched it), but I didn’t touch it when we went out with the guys,” said Wright. “When you went out for the warm-up, you touched it because it is iconic. I had to touch it.

“I didn’t want them to see it (my teammates) because I didn’t want them to feel it’s disrespectful. I wasn’t being disrespectful, I just wanted to touch that sign.”

Keane on whether he touched it: “No, of course not. It’s okay, it’s a tradition for the English players. Not for the opposition players.

“Not sure why you touched it, Wrighty. It’s childish. It’s very childish. What benefit did you get out of touching it?”

Liverpool already have one trophy in their cabinet and they have a big chance to add more.

Despite a small scare, they saw off fellow Premier League side Norwich City to progress through to the next round of the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

They are hunting down Manchester City in the Premier League title race and are due to play them at the Etihad.

Whilst they have reached the final and won the European Cup under Klopp and are going strong once more this season,

Either way, there is a real possibility a number of trophies can land in Liverpool’s Anfield cabinet this term.
