Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in anger when discussing what happened in the closing stages of their 1-0 defeat to Southampton.

In the 95th minute at St Mary’s, the Reds had a corner with Andre Marriner waiting to blow his whistle for full-time.

Inexplicably, Liverpool decided to play the corner short, where Marriner then called time on proceedings before anything could happen.

It was a truly infuriating moment, even for those who don’t support Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool scored with a 90th minute corner in the recent win over Tottenham at Anfield, so they’ve proven to themselves that they’re capable of netting from this type of set-piece late on.

When there’s barely any time left on the clock, a short corner is always a risky move to make.

Typically, referees are just waiting for the ball to come back into play before putting their whistle to their lips.

It was a golden opportunity for someone like Fabinho, Roberto Firmino or Jordan Henderson to nod in an equaliser.

However, Klopp’s men went short, and were immediately made to pay for that decision by the crushing sound of Marriner’s whistle.

Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter thought of the decision…
