Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Gary Lineker has admitted that he has previously been wrong about James Milner.
Lineker, along with Micah Richards and Alan Shearer was tasked with naming the top 10 unsung heroes of the Premier League era, and inevitably, Milner’s name was on the list.
The Liverpool man has always been something of an unsung hero, and at times, he’s even been a bit of a scapegoat, but Lineker says that he has previously been wrong to dismiss the midfielder.
What’s Lineker said about Milner?
Lineker apologised for a tweet he posted about Milner a few years ago.
“A few years ago I tweeted something. He always played in different positions and I tweeted something, I did a tweet along the lines of ‘I don’t really know what James Milner is’ and I was wrong, because actually what he is is an unbelievably brilliant professional who will play anywhere for you. I apologised and he took it with great spirit,” Lineker said.

Underappreciated
This just goes to show how underappreciated Milner really is.
The veteran is one of the most consistent performers the Premier League has ever seen, and while he may be labelled ‘boring’ or a bit of a journeyman, any team in the league could do with having him in their squad.
He barely ever puts a foot wrong and he can play anywhere on the park. He’s the ultimate unsung hero and Lineker has now rightly given him the credit he deserves.
