Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted that he was ‘wrong’ to think Pablo Fornals was offside following his goalline clearance during Liverpool’s 1-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday at Anfield, as he told Sky Sports.
When the ball was played over the top for Fornals, Alexander-Arnold tried to play the West Ham man onside, but failed to do so.
The offside flag wasn’t raised, Fornals, in a one-v-one situation with Liverpool’s goalkeeper, tried to dink the ball over the on-rushing Alisson Becker, before Alexander-Arnold did very well to clear the ball off the line.
The Liverpool right-back was then seen protesting to the linesman as to why he didn’t raise his flag.
But, after seeing the replay, Alexander-Arnold admitted that he was in the wrong, and as the players have been told, they should just continue playing until the flag is raised, even if there is a delay.
“I thought it was offside but I was wrong,” said Alexander-Arnold.
“I saw it back and I was wrong. But you play to the whistle these days and that’s the main message we have been told.
“I done that and I have been able to clear it off the line. Take it and keep the clean sheet.”

That was a typical title-winning-like performance from Jurgen Klopp’s men because they had to grind it out right until the last minute.
Champions League-chasing West Ham would have left Anfield wondering how they didn’t score.
But Liverpool showcased a different side to their game and they were scrapping at every little detail to ensure they kept a clean sheet.
All of that could come a long way in the Premier League title race because Liverpool are on the tails of Manchester City.
