Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has told the Liverpool Echo that he felt Arsenal got fortunate not to give a penalty away in their game against Wolves on Sunday.
Robertson was pulled up in the injury time by VAR, after he kicked Danny Welbeck’s leg in the penalty area during Liverpool’s game against Brighton.
The Seagulls were ultimately awarded a spot kick, which led to Brighton claiming a draw against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Arsenal, on the other hand, were not punished when Gabriel appeared to make slight contact with Traore in the box, and the Wolves attacker went down.
And Robertson feels that the decision in the Arsenal match helped to expose a lack of consistency in the way the rules are being applied.
“I do believe that maybe ex-professionals, ex-footballers, ex-managers, ex-referees should be involved in some of the decision making,” Robertson said.
“There has been a lot of change in the rules in England in particular.
“I think De Bruyne said the other week he wasn’t certain of the rules anymore. I think we all can echo that.
“There are a lot of improvements to be made. We are 18 months down the line, and still the same mistakes are being made.
“On Saturday: I’ve got no problem with my tackle being deemed a penalty. But I was watching the games yestrerday and seen two very similar instances that went unpunished [on Rashford and Traore].
“For me, either all three have to be penalties or all three aren’t penalties.

“I think that’s where we are struggling a wee bit. We are just looking for consistency.
“We thought we would be getting that with VAR but maybe we aren’t getting that just now.”
The failure to award Wolves a penalty for the challenge didn’t ultimately affect the result of the match, which VAR may be thankful for, after yet another controversial weekend.
Arsenal were still beaten 2-1 on Sunday, with Nuno’s side largely outplaying them for much of the contest.
