Jack Wilshere has claimed that he was ‘very lucky’ when coming through at Arsenal, as he told Tubes’ YouTube channel.
The 29-year-old fan favourite was dubbed as a wonderkid when coming through the ranks at Hale-End and making his senior Arsenal debut as a teenager.
That performance against Barcelona in the Champions League is one that will live long in the memory of the Arsenal supporters.
But Wilshere shared how he was ‘fortunate’ when coming through the North London ranks, as he compared his situation to Jamie Vardy.
“I was lucky to come through an academy like Arsenal,” said Wilshere. “They had everything. We were spoilt and you took it for granted.
“You hear about players stories, your Vardy’s and things like that. There are other ways through.
“But I was very lucky and very fortunate to be in an academy like that. It was unbelievable.”

It’s a shame how Wilshere’s career has since transpired out because this is where many thought he would be one of the best in Europe.
Injuries hit the technically-gifted midfielder hard and now, after leaving Championship side Bournemouth last season, he is looking for a new home.
Given that he has left a team in England’s second-tier, it would be a bit of a surprise to see him land a Premier League gig.
But given his past experiences, he may well just get a knock from a Premier League club and be handed one last shot at trying to showcase his younger days on the big stage.
