Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Anthony Gordon and Chelsea’s interest in the Everton man.
The Blues have been relentless in their pursuit of Gordon in recent weeks, and while some reports have suggested that the London club’s pursuit of the attacker is over, Jones is led to believe that Chelsea have one more trick up their sleeve here.
Indeed, Jones says that Chelsea have something lined up to try to get Gordon out of Everton, and he’s suggested that it may well involve a swap for Armando Broja.
What’s been said?
Jones spoke about Gordon’s situation.
“Anthony Gordon is looking more like a £70m signing. Upwards of £70m even because Everton don’t consider £60m plus £10m enough to sign Anthony Gordon. I was told that Chelsea still have one more trick up their sleeve. They still want to go for Gordon and they still have one trick that they’re going to try to get him into Chelsea, so we’ll see what happens,” Jones said.
“I think the trick is to offer Broja on Deadline Day, that’s probably the trick.”
Bite their hands off
If Chelsea are offering Armando Broja and a substantial fee for Gordon on deadline day, Everton need to take the money and run.
Yes, Gordon has a high ceiling, but so does Broja and these types of offers for Gordon won’t come around every summer.
Gordon is a fantastic player, but if Chelsea put together a package that includes big money and Broja, the Toffees simply can’t turn that down.
It will certainly be interesting to see what happens if this offer comes onto the table from Chelsea.
