Sol Bamba has shared that he was ‘surprised’ by Conor Coady’s move from Wolves to Everton, but added that Frank Lampard’s new signing is a ‘very good’ player.
The former Premier League defender added that he knows Coady personally and he is a ‘lovely guy’ that will provide ‘leadership’ qualities to Everton’s backline.
The 29-year-old’s move to Goodison Park is a season-long loan, but it has been suggested that the Toffees can secure his services on a permanent basis at the end of the season, as reported by the Express and Star.
Unless things go horribly wrong for the player, more than likely, he should be a full-time Everton player in 12 months, which would just further prove how this is a top deal.
For a number of years, those in the Goodison Park boardroom have been heavily criticised for the deals they have concluded in the market and the money that has been wasted.
Well, for once, the fans have something to cheer about, as Bamba thinks Coady and fellow summer signing, James Tarkowski, will build a strong partnership together, as he told the Football Show on Sky Sports.
“I was surprised, but that’s football for you,” said Bamba. “I know Conor, he is a lovely guy and I am surprised that Wolves let him go.
“He’s done the right thing. He wants to play. It’s a World Cup year, and the manager has benched him in the first game, I know it’s only the first game, but I am sure they had a conversation that he knows he won’t play too much.
“But it’s a great move for him and Everton. That’s what they need. A leader and a very good player. Him and Tarkowski have played together in the England national team as well. I think that’s a very good partnership for Everton.”

The England international won’t exactly get a warm reception from the Villa Park faithful because of his Wolves past, but it won’t be anything he can’t deal with.
Lampard’s side lost their opening game of the new Premier League season, just like Villa, but there seems to be more togetherness and backing of the Chelsea legend from his own fans, than there is of Steven Gerrard in the Midlands.
So, from that perspective, it will be interesting to see if Lampard uses that so that his players can put up their first win of the new season on the board.
