Speaking on Open Goal, Charlie Mulgrew has shared his view on Scott Brown’s decision to leave Celtic at the end of the season.
The midfielder has spent over a decade at Celtic Park, and he will undoubtedly go down as a legend with the Hoops, but he’s now going to go and join Aberdeen in a player/coach role.
Mulgrew, who played with Brown at Celtic, says he was shocked by his decision to leave Glasgow, claiming that he half understands the decision.
“I was surprised to be honest, he’s surprised everybody. He’s been such a good servant hasn’t he for the time he’s been there,” Mulgrew said.
“He’s a top player and whenever he’s been doubted he’s stepped up to the mark, and he’s probably been at his best when people have questioned him. It’s a bit of a surprise, but I can half understand it. He wants to leave and he wants to get involved with the coaching side of things, and nothing is guaranteed with who the manager is going to be.”

To be fair, Mulgrew is right.
Brown is such a Celtic legend that it’s hard to imagine him playing for anybody else, so his decision to sign for Aberdeen was a bit of a shock.
However, as Mulgrew says, if he wants to get into coaching, he’s not guaranteed that route at Celtic, especially as they don’t currently have a first-team manager.
Perhaps one day we will see Brown back at Celtic in a coaching capacity.
