Tammy Abraham has posted on Instagram that he was ‘standing there clapping’ when Yannick Bolasie produced a ridiculous skill during his days as an Aston Villa player against Leeds United.
The winger posted footage of that skill on Thursday, which, at the time, wowed the Villa Park crowd and left Leeds duo – Adam Forshaw and Luke Ayling – chasing shadows.
In the comments section, Abraham, who opened the scoring during that game, posted ‘I was standing there clapping…forgot to get in the box’ added with a laughing and clapping emoji.
That was Marcelo Bielsa’s first season in charge of Leeds and it was a game that saw his team claw their way to a remarkable win.
Villa rushed into a 2-0 lead inside the first half, before the all-action Leeds machine fought back, with Kemar Roofe providing the killer blow and scoring a last-minute winner.
Both teams were pushing for promotion that season, as they ended the campaign in the play-offs.
Their paths didn’t cross because Leeds lost to then-Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the semi-final, who were then beaten by Villa at Wembley.
From Spygate to Bielsa allowing Villa to score an uncontested goal, it was a season of drama, high pressure and big names on show.
All in all, there was some serious talent on that Villa Park pitch on that day, from Kalvin Phillips to Tammy Abraham himself.
Now, the duo are England internationals, alongside the likes of Tyrone Mings, who would join Villa in January and Jack Grealish.
