Garth Crooks has admitted on BBC Sport that he has been surprised by Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who scored against Frank Lampard’s Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League this past weekend.

The former Tottenham forward has said that he was taken aback by the goal that Hojbjerg scored for Spurs against the Toffees.

The Denmark international midfielder scored in the second half of Tottenham’s Premier League game against Everton in North London this past weekend.

Tottenham won 2-0.

Crooks wrote: “Everton should really have been 2-0 up at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before Spurs got into any kind of rhythm.

“It never ceases to amaze me when midfield players or defenders find themselves in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper they go into meltdown or suffer a panic attack.

“Had Amadou Onana or Demarai Gray retained the slightest composure in front of goal Everton could have come away with something.

“Hojbjerg on the other hand showed the control and composure, not always associated with the Denmark international, to seal the points for Spurs in a 2-0 win.

“I don’t know why I was so surprised, Hojbjerg has been a brilliant addition to the team and quietly consistent for some considerable time.”

Important player for Spurs

In our opinion, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been superb for Tottenham Hotspur ever since his move to the North London club.

The 27-year-old has established himself as a key figure in Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte’s team.

Hojbjerg is one of the first names on the Tottenham teamsheet when he is fit and available.

The former Southampton star has scored three goals and provided one assist in 10 Premier League matches, and has given two assists in four UEFA Champions League games for Tottenham so far this campaign.
