Trevoh Chalobah has shared that Naby Keita’s studs-up tackle on him during Liverpool’s League Cup final triumph against Chelsea let him needing stitches, as he told Soccer AM (12/03/22).
The Chelsea defender shared that he was ‘screaming’ in pain in the treatment room as he was getting the stitches.
In the second half of Liverpool’s penalty shootout win over Chelsea, Keita, whilst going for a 50-50 ball with Chalobah, ended up catching him in the groin area.
The Chelsea 22-year-old was on the floor in agony straight after, and despite watching the replays back, VAR decided against sending the Liverpool midfielder off.
Weeks after that incident, Chalobah has now spoken about what happened and how he is ‘better now’.
“It’s better now,” said Chalobah. “But I had to get stitches literally straight after the game.
“When he came in (Chelsea staff member), I was screaming. I was getting the operation done. It was so painful. I was screaming.
“He said ‘he could hear screams and he couldn’t believe it’. But, it was so painful. I didn’t want to come off that game and I had to fight through.”

That was a big talking moment after the match and a possible game-changing one.
The Wembley encounter saw goal after goal being disallowed, as that possible red card moment could have decided the game in either normal or extra-time.
In the end, it was Kepa Arrizabalaga writing his name into the history books for the wrong reasons.
Whilst it was a moment to forget for the subbed on Chelsea shot-stopper, it was the complete opposite for Liverpool’s rising star, Caoimhin Kelleher.
