Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds (via Yorkshire Evening Post), Mateusz Klich has claimed that he’s been playing through injury recently, even taking pain killers to get through United’s last game.

The midfielder hasn’t been starting every game recently, and that now makes a lot more sense as he’s been struggling with his fitness.

The Poland international has had a hip problem, but he says it’s not a big problem and that he should be fine to continue playing through it.

“I had some struggles with my hip but it should be fine,” Klich said.

“It’s hard to say because I was on painkillers but it wasn’t that bad,” Klich replied when asked how if it’s been difficult to play with his issue.

“It’s not something that is a very, very big issue but obviously every little pain is just annoying and it doesn’t really help but that wasn’t the reason why I couldn’t play better.

“At the back of your head you always know there is something not 100 per cent right.

“But it’s nothing big and it’s not an excuse.”

This is certainly interesting to hear.

Marcelo Bielsa’s recent team selections now make a lot more sense, as Klich has been starting on the bench in some games in recent weeks, and that’s been a rare sight throughout the Bielsa era.

Klich says that he’ll be fine, but the fact that he doesn’t feel 100 per cent doesn’t bode well for Leeds, and we can only hope that he’s back to his best sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately, the reality is that Klich is a vitally important player, so it’s not really a viable option to completely drop him from the squad.
