Speaking to the Chronicle, Eddie Howe has admitted to banning some things at Newcastle as he looks to improve the fitness of his squad.
What’s the story?
Well, Howe was asked about Antonio Conte’s decision to ban ketchup from the Tottenham canteen, with the Newcastle boss yet to decide himself.
The 43-year-old said: “I haven’t banned ketchup at the moment. I will speak to our nutritionists to see if that’s something we need to do.”
However, Howe admits he has banned his Newcastle players from eating biscuits, as he looks to kick on from the Steve Bruce era.
The ex-Bournemouth boss said: “Biscuits aren’t flying around here I can assure people of that. There are things we have banned, our sports science team.
“Historically there were some things I was not happy to see flying around the changing room, some foods thinking back I had to get involved but I don’t want to go into detail on that.”
These things may seem minor, although marginal gains will be key as Howe looks to overturn what is looking like a dismal situation.

Newcastle are yet to win after 12 Premier League games, and sit bottom of the table with just six points from a possible 36.
Put it this way. If a manager of Conte’s quality sees fit to ban ketchup, fizzy drinks and other things, it’s probably a good idea.
Everyone at Newcastle must listen to Eddie Howe
Given the situation Newcastle are in, it’s time for everyone to pull together.
There were plenty of rumours about bust-ups at Little Benton under Bruce, while the supporters didn’t really like the 60-year-old.
Now, there is no room for diversion – everyone must come together.

Whatever Howe says, the players must do, and do well – a third of the season has gone, and the Magpies can’t afford to squander more points.
If anyone has an issue with the bans Howe has implemented, then they simply shouldn’t play.
Amid a relegation battle, togetherness – as much as food-based marginal gains – will be hugely important.
