Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Tottenham’s transfer plans for the summer, claiming that Jose Mourinho wanted to try again for Milan Skriniar this summer before he was sacked.
Romano says that Mourinho’s sacking won’t affect the positions that Tottenham attempt to bolster this summer, but it will change the personnel they try to recruit.
Unfortunately, Romano believes that a move for Skriniar could be difficult to pull off now that Mourinho has been sacked.
“It will change with the names, more than with the positions. I was hearing for example, to give you something behind the scenes. Jose Mourinho was really intentioned to try for Milan Škriniar this summer,” Romano said.
“He wanted Skriniar one year ago, and he wanted Skriniar some weeks ago to go into next season, so he was ready to try again to convince Tottenham to try again for Skriniar, he’s having an amazing season.”
“Mourinho wanted to go again for Skriniar, but without Mourinho, Tottenham will go for a CB but maybe it will be a different one with a new manager.”
“It won’t change with the positions, they want a centre-back, maybe a striker and let’s see what happens with the wingers, but for sure Skriniar is complicated, because it was related to Jose Mourinho.”

This is certainly very interesting to hear.
Skriniar would have been a fantastic signing for Tottenham, but it seems as though they may not get him now.
Of course, there was no guarantee that they’d have landed him under Mourinho, but with the way Romano was talking, it seems as though he was a top target under the former manager.
Fingers crossed Tottenham can bring in a centre-half who is just as good as Skriniar.
