Speaking on The Totally Football Show, Jobi McAnuff has been discussing Jesse Marsch and the job he’s doing at Leeds United.
Marsch has done a fantastic job at Leeds since being appointed in February, and after their unbeaten start to the Premier League season, he’s earning plenty of praise.
The Leeds boss has certainly improved the Whites since arriving, and McAnuff says that Marsch has proven a lot of people wrong with the job he’s done at Elland Road.
What’s been said?
McAnuff had a lot of good things to say about Marsch.
“I do like what Jesse Marsch has done in terms of the energy. Again, for me all good teams and good managers are able to replicate themselves out on the pitch and when I hear Marsch talk he’s all about energy, intensity and enthusiasm and when I see Leeds that’s what I see. Aaronson has come in and added to that, Harrison of course. I think he’s really proven a lot of people wrong, I was doubtful when he first came in, but he kept them up and now they’re moving quite nicely into his style,” McAnuff said.
Silenced the doubters
Marsch was greeted in England with a lot of scepticism. Marsch was replacing a fan favourite in Marcelo Bielsa when he arrived at Elland Road and as an American coach in the UK, there were, of course, some rather uneducated and disrespectful opinions being floated.
Indeed, Marsch was even compared to Ted Lasso during his first few weeks at Leeds, but the United gaffer has gone a long way towards proving those criticisms wrong.
Yes, it’s easy to go after the low-hanging fruit and pick fun at Marsch because he’s American and he calls it soccer rather than football, but make no mistake about it, this is a top-level manager who is proving he belongs in the Premier League.
When all is said and done, Marsch may well change opinions when it comes to American coaches in English football.
