‘I was dismayed’: Arsenal loanee admits manager’s decision didn’t sit well with him

Arsenal loanee Joe Willock told BBC Sport that he was ‘dismayed’ to be on the bench during Newcastle’s 2-2 draw against Spurs on Sunday.

Steve Bruce brought on the Arsenal academy product in the second half and he showed why he should have started by scoring the equalising goal.

It was a crucial moment for the relegation-threatened side because it means they can keep up their hopes of surviving in the Premier League.

After the game, Willock was pretty honest in how he felt about being left out of the starting XI.

“I was dismayed to be on the bench,” said Willock. “I wanted to make an impact as soon as I come on. I’m happy I could do that.”

Willock is enjoying a pretty fruitful spell up in Newcastle and he will be hoping that road leads him back to North London.

He was a bit-part player for Mikel Arteta, but will that change when he returns to Arsenal in the summer?

Arsenal have depth in their squad, but the problems lie with the fact that they don’t have quality, which may help Willock’s case in pushing into the first-team picture at his boyhood club.
