Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has been discussing Patrick Bamford and his ongoing injury problems.

Bamford has been out of action for the vast majority of this season, but last month, it looked as though he was on the road to recovery.

Indeed, he was on the bench against Leicester City before appearing against Aston Villa, Norwich and Wolves.

However, sadly, Bamford suffered a recurrence of his injury against Wolves, and Wright says he was absolutely gutted to see the striker go down with another issue.

What’s been said?

Wright spoke about Kalvin Phillips’ return and Bamford’s injury.

“I try to explain to people how tough it is to live with injuries like that. When you have an injury like that, every minute of the day it’s all you think about. You’re being held back so that you don’t break down, we’ve seen that unfortunately with Patrick Bamford. I can’t get into the headspace of the pressure he’s under. To see him back, I just pray that he doesn’t break down like Patrick, I was devastated for Patrick and I hope it doesn’t happen to Kalvin because he’s needed,” Wright said.

Heart-breaking

It truly is heart-breaking to see Bamford’s career plagued by injuries like this.

Last season, Bamford was in the form of his life, he netted 17 league goals and he even earned himself an England call-up.

However, now, his international dreams look as though they’ve gone up in smoke, and when he returns he’ll be playing under a new manager who will coach him completely differently.

Who knows what Leeds’ season would have looked like if Bamford didn’t get injured? Sadly, we’ll never know.
