Speaking on ESPN, Newcastle supporter Don Hutchinson says that he was desperate for Newcastle to sign Jesse Lingard in January, but he’s happy with the business that’s been done.
Hutchinson was once again waxing-lyrical over Bruno Guimaraes, but he did say that he really wanted the Tyneside club to land Lingard.
Sadly, Manchester United drove too hard of a bargain over Lingard, and while Newcastle tried to land the England ace, they couldn’t agree a deal.
What’s been said about Lingard?
The pundit says that he really wanted Newcastle to sign Lingard.
“I was desperate to get Jesse Lingard over the line towards the transfer deadline, but when you look at the signings Eddie Howe brought in, I’m pinching myself that we got Guimaraes, because I can’t believe none of the top four were chasing him, because this kid is incredible,” Hutchinson said.

Shame
It’s a real shame that Newcastle couldn’t land Lingard.
The midfielder would have been a great addition to the Magpies’ squad, and Newcastle would have provided Lingard with a platform to get back playing.
The 29-year-old is far too good to be rotting on the bench at Old Trafford, but sadly, due to Manchester United’s hardball negotiating tactics, he won’t be able to play much football in the coming months, and that will surely affect his chances of going to the World Cup later this year.
Sadly, the ‘fantastic‘ player won’t be strutting his stuff at St James’ Park for the remainder of the season.
