Former Arsenal star Paul Merson has given his verdict on Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

The Sky Sports pundit thinks that the problem Rashford has at United is that he takes things for granted.

So, what has Paul Merson said about Marcus Rashford? Let’s take a look.

Paul Merson notes Marcus Rashford’s ‘problem’ at Manchester United

Well, Marcus Rashford has been hitting the headlines for Manchester United in recent times, for both good and bad reasons.

The Telegraph reported last week that Rashford was fined two weeks’ wages for partying in Belfast before reporting ill for training. As we reported on HITC, some senior players at the club were not happy.

United manager Erik ten Hag did not include the £300,000-a-week (Spotrac) England international forward for the FA Cup tie against Newport County.

Rashford, though, played against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League last week and scored.

The 26-year-old forward also turned out for the Red Devils in the Premier League match against West Ham United this past weekend.

Paul Merson has given his take on Rashford’s situation. The Sky Sports pundit thinks that the forward, who has been urged by one pundit to join Tottenham Hotspur, is taking it for granted at United.

The pundit has said that it was only when he left Arsenal that he realised how good he had it at the North London club.

The former England international attacker was on the books of Arsenal from 1982 until 1997 before he moved to Middlesbrough. Merson went on to play for  Aston Villa and Portsmouth among other clubs.

Merson said about Rashford on Sky Sports: “It doesn’t look like he is enjoying his football, it doesn’t. But if you sit down, you know, if I was his agent, I would sit down and go, ‘You are at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Wherever you go around the world, whichever club you play for, you still have got to take your head with you. Your head comes with you. So, nothing really changes. It’s you’.

“For me, he has probably, because he has been at Man United for so long, and I don’t mean horribly, but he probably takes it for granted. He doesn’t understand. I live in London, I come from London. We take it for granted, Big Ben and House of Parliament, everybody flies to London to see London. When you live there yourself, you take it for granted.

“And, I think that’s the problem. He has been at United for a long time. But, remember, the grass is not always greener on the other side. I was at Arsenal for 14 years, I left Arsenal, and the day you realise, ‘Wow! What a club’.”

My View: Marcus Rashford will never be world class

In my opinion, Marcus Rashford is not a world-class player and will never be. The Manchester United forward is not very consistent and does not always turn up in the big games.

Rashford is predictable as well, coming in from the wide. The forward is not a natural striker, and although Erik ten Hag fancies playing him as a striker, he is not a ‘goalscorer’.

The 26-year-old, though, is a very good forward and is an important player for United. He has scored 81 goals and given 39 assists in 261 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
