Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has told BBC Sport that Harry Kane, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Heung-Min Son ‘scared’ him with their performances against Manchester City.
Tottenham were beaten 3-0 by City on Saturday, in what was another disappointing display from the Lilywhites.
Spurs never really got going in the fixture, as they struggled to pose much of an attacking threat.
But Mourinho insists that his side’s issue was not down to their work-rate.
Instead the Portuguese manager was very complimentary of his players’ desire, and he singled out Kane, Hojbjerg and Son for praise at full-time.
“I saw a team where the players, they gave everything. Some of them scare me. They scare me because two hours of football, plus 90 minutes and the way they were still fighting and running – Kane, Pierre, Sonny,” Mourinho said.
“The way these boys were trying to give everything I was afraid of something to happen.”
Kane, Hojbjerg and Son have arguably been Mourinho’s three most trusted players this season, so it is hardly surprising that he picked the trio out for positive words at full-time.
Hojbjerg actually didn’t have his best game on Saturday, as he gave away a penalty, and Son also struggled to get involved.
Kane, on the other hand, did show flashes of quality but his teammates were unable to provide him with a meaningful chance.
