Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has admitted on the Leeds United podcast that he was absolutely fuming during his side’s latest win against Southampton.
Bamford scored and helped Leeds to a 2-0 win at St. Mary’s on Tuesday.
However, when the score was locked at 0-0, the striker was denied a penalty.
Bamford was one on one and was clipped by Alex McCarthy in the Southampton goal.
The Leeds forward opted to stay on his feet rather than go down under contact, but he was impeded so badly that he couldn’t get his shot away.
Bamford was expecting the referee to point to the spot, as as a result, but his protests were turned down.
And Bamford admitted on the podcast that he was still annoyed about the decision.
“Do you know what, I was absolutely fuming,” he raged.
“The thing was I knew I had gone past the keeper and I knew it was a tap in so I had no reason to go down. but then he touched me as I’ve gone past him and he’s clipped me, which as I’m getting ready to kick the ball has made me take a few extra steps and i’ve run out of room.
“I was livid with him, I said to him ‘you’re basically telling me I’ve got to dive’.

“The annoying thing is, I’m on penalties as well so I don’t know why I didn’t!”
If Bamford had gone down he could well have ended up with a brace and moved on to 17 goals for the season.
The Leeds striker did set an ambitious target of reaching 20 for the campaign, but that looks unlikely now – with just one game remaining.
Even so, Bamford has enjoyed a wonderful first season back in the top flight with Leeds, and has silenced any doubters over whether he could cope in the Premier League.
