Patrick Bamford has admitted to Sky Sports that he got nervous after scoring for Leeds United last night.

Bamford hit Leeds’ opening goal in their 2-0 win over Southampton, with a tidy finish at the near post.

The striker has previously had goals ruled out for offside upon VAR review though – with his strike against Crystal Palace early on in the season immediately springing to mind.

When the replays first flashed up, there were concerns that the Leeds striker has strayed beyond the last line of the defence again.

However, as it turned out, the Leeds forward had timed his run perfectly, meaning there was no need for him to be anxious.

“I thought VAR was going to do me again for my goal, I was a little bit nervous, the ball skipped away from me as it bounced, but I managed to get a toe on it, it was a little bit fortunate, but a goal is a goal,” he admitted.

Bamford almost scored again late on, but his shot ended up being saved, with Tyler Roberts converting the rebound.

Bamford’s goal means that he has now taken his tally to 16 in the Premier League for the season, which represents an excellent return.

Leeds’ win last night also takes them up to eighth place in table, which is an excellent performance for a side so new to the top flight.
