Rumoured Tottenham target Antonio Rudiger has admitted he ‘wanted to leave’ Chelsea in the summer, as he told Sky Sports.
The 28-year-old had fallen out of favour under Frank Lampard and was seemingly heading for the exit door.
Although, the player did share that during the winter period, he didn’t think too much about leaving Stamford Bridge.
But that didn’t stop rumours surfacing about Spurs wanting to snap him up, which have since continued now Antonio Conte is in charge of the club, as reported by Eurosport.
Rudiger will be glad that he did stay put because after Lampard’s sacking, he went on to win the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel.
And he shared how he was feeling during both periods of what was an eventful campaign for the club.
“During the winter period, I wasn’t too keen to leave that much,” said Rudiger. “It was more in the summer period, then I wanted to leave.
“But Thomas Tuchel came in and the rest is history.”

The talk about Rudiger’s future is still continuing because he is yet to commit his future to the club.
As things stand, he will be a free transfer next summer and a player of his quality will be sought-after by many, many clubs if he does leave west London.
It would be one big surprise if he heads across the capital and to Spurs, even if they have the pull of Conte in the dugout.
Rudiger knows the Chelsea-Spurs rivalry too well for him to make that switch because if he does, then he is better off staying put at Chelsea.
