Tottenham Hotspur really haven’t been the same team since Kyle Walker was sold.
The England international left Spurs to join Manchester City in a £50 million deal back in 2017.
In Walker’s last season at Tottenham, the team, then under Mauricio Pochettino, finished second in the Premier League by only seven points, winning 86 in total.
Since his exit, the Lilywhites’ points tally for a Premier League campaign has declined on a consistent basis – last term they finished sixth on 59 points for example.
The Citizens face Sheffield United this afternoon in what could be the 30-year-old’s 100th league appearance, and Pep Guardiola has described him as an ‘incredible signing’ and thanked the Etihad Stadium side for bringing him in.
He said to City’s official website: “It was an incredible signing for Man City. I want to thank the club for bringing him here.
“Today top players are the ones who can play every three days. Before you sign a player, you have to look at his ability to play and play and play – the regeneration capability.”
Tottenham tried replacing the right-back – a two-time Premier League champion under Guardiola – with the likes of Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier.
But if we’re honest, neither are fit to lace his boots and many fans of the North London club will admit as much.
They signed Matt Doherty from Wolves this past summer and hopefully the Irishman fares a bit better in being Walker’s replacement.
