Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has admitted that he intends to ‘stop’ Tottenham Hotspur right wing-back Pedro Porro on Saturday.

The Spanish defender has been in form lately, assisting Harry Kane’s winner with an inch-perfect cross against Crystal Palace.

While one would expected Aston Villa manager Unai Emery to have picked Harry Kane or Son Heung-min from Tottenham Hotspur, he named Pedro Porro as their biggest threat.

Aston Villa boss Emery wants to curb Tottenham player Porro

Since joining Spurs on loan, the former Manchester City wonderkid has been a mixed bag.

Defensively, Porro’s limitations have come to light, as he was torn to shreds against Leicester City and did not look the part against Liverpool as well.

However, going forward, the Spanish international looks like a real player and ironically, the ideal wing-back in Antonio Conte’s setup.

As Aston Villa prepare to host Tottenham at Villa Park, Unai Emery has said that Pedro Porro could be the visitors’ biggest threat.

“Yes of course, [Porro] is playing very well. He’s a strong player offensively and defensively. He’ll face [Alex] Moreno and [Lucas] Digne and I want to stop him and take the challenge with the duels”, Emery told Birmingham Mail.

HITC View: Huge compliment to Pedro Porro

Considering Tottenham have one of the scariest frontline’s in the Premier League in Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski, Aston Villa boss singling Pedro Porro out should boost his confidence.

Joining the club on loan in January, Pedro has become quite a polarizing figure.

According to some, the Sporting CP loanee is simply not at the level on both ends of the pitch to rate highly enough.

The other school of thought is that while Pedro Porro is quite raw, he has the potential to become a world-class player in the future.

Regardless of where one stands, Emery’s admission about Porro should reassure him that big names within the game are taking notice of his promise.
