‘I want to stay’: Arsenal star discusses his future amid transfer speculation

Alexandre Lacazette addressed his future at Arsenal in an interview with beIN Sports earlier today.

The Frenchman, signed by Arsene Wenger back in 2017, was expected to be the man to fire the Gunners back to their glory days. However, he has had his ups and downs, especially in away games.

Lacazette went over a year without scoring an away league goal for Arsenal. That is a very poor return for a player of his quality but, thankfully, he put that record straight by scoring in back-to-back visits to Wolves and Spurs.

Arteta has always said that he is happy with Lacazette’s performances for the team, even in a period when he failed to score regularly. The former Lyon man was even benched with the manager preferring young Eddie Nketiah over him.

That raised speculation surrounding his future at the club beyond the end of this season. Mundo Deportivo claimed in June that Inter Milan were interested in Lacazette, while Calcio Mercato revealed that Juventus have him in their sights too.

AS reported in May that Arsenal would be open to swapping Lacazette for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Lemar, while an exchange with Diego Simeone’s side for Thomas Partey has also been mentioned.

However, it looks like the Frenchman is happy at Arsenal and he has claimed that he will stay at the Emirates if the club wants him to.

He told beIN Sports: “I’m in contract with the club so obliviously when I sign I wanted to win trophies. We have a chance on Saturday to go to the final so as soon as I can progress and the club wants me, I want to stay.”

Selling Lacazette now makes no sense unless it is for financial reasons. The Frenchman’s style is something that Arteta is a fan of, and his recent performances show that he is capable of scoring regularly.

Arteta even claimed in his press conference today that he is really happy with Lacazette and has no intention of letting him leave the club any time soon. (Football London)

That should make it a very easy decision for Arsenal. The player is open to staying and the manager wants him to remain, which should put an end to all the speculation surrounding his future.

However, Lacazette is one of Arsenal’s most valuable players and financial problems could force the club to cash in on him, especially if a good offer arrives this summer.
