There was two bits of bad news for Aston Villa last night.
Firstly, Dean Smith’s side were knocked out of the EFL Cup on penalties after losing away to Chelsea, which is never an easy manner of defeat to accept.
But also, Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Sanson looks like he has suffered yet another injury.
The Frenchman has only started three Premier League games since his £16 million move to the Midlands in January of this year.
And considering Smith took him off on 42 minutes last night, it doesn’t look good.
Here’s how some Aston Villa fans are reacting to the setback:
Is Morgan Sanson injured?
It’s too early to say how long he’ll be out but yes, it does seem certain that Sanson is injured again.
According to The Birmingham Mail, the 27-year-old personally signalled to Smith that he was unable to continue, which is never a good sign.
Having said that, Sanson knows his body better than anybody else and it is possible that he called to be substituted because he felt that he was on the verge of tweaking or pulling something, not that he definitely had already sustained damage.
If he is, it’s such a shame because he was one of Aston Villa’s brighest players prior to going off.
And remember, Chelsea have a Champions League-winning squad so the fact that Sanson was impressing is indicative of his talent, making his injury issues all the more tragic.
