Some Liverpool fans are excited by one new rumour coming out of Spain.
According to Diario Madridista, the Reds are keen on signing Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane during the summer transfer window.
It looks pretty likely that Liverpool will sign at least one central defender before next season after what’s been a miserable defence of their Premier League title.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are 19 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and it’s largely because Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip – their only three senior centre-backs – have been injured for much of the campaign.
Even Fabinho and Jordan Henderson – both midfielders – have fallen injured since being used in Klopp’s back four out of necessity.
Varane, who’s out of contract at the Bernabeu in 2022, has won four Champions League titles and three Liga crowns since joining the club a decade ago.
And more importantly, he seems to have conquered the injury issues which ravaged his early years in the Spanish capital.
