Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta has stated his intention to become a legend with the French club just days after Newcastle reportedly made a bid for the Brazilian.
Speaking on Amazon Prime via GFFN, the former AC Milan star made a clear statement on his future following an incredible display for Lyon against Ligue 1 leaders PSG.
The midfielder stated that he wanted to remain with the French giants, with Paqueta one of Lyon’s best-performing players this season in what has been an unusual season for the Ligue 1 side.
Paqueta said when asked about his future: “I want to write history with Lyon. I will do everything to win titles, to engrave my name in the history of this club.”
Indeed, this statement appears to be an indication that Paqueta wants to stay with Lyon. Yet Newcastle appeared to have missed the memo. According to Le 10 Sport, the Toon submitted a £34m bid for Paqueta earlier in the month.
However, it appears that this offer was rejected by Lyon. Moreover, as reported by the Athletic, Newcastle will be turning their attention to signing a central defender and striker ahead of their Premier League match against Watford.
Lyon star Paqueta is the last thing Newcastle need this January

Paqueta has found a home in Lyon, with the former Milan star going from strength to strength with the French club since arriving in 2020. Yet for Newcastle, the Magpies have bigger issues than signing the 24-year-old.
With the defence leaking in goals and a consistent rate and Callum Wilson out until March, Newcastle need to plug these holes first before attempting to sign Paqueta, who looks set to remain at Lyon beyond this transfer window.
