Yesterday, Mikel Arteta sat down in front of the media ahead of the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Brighton this afternoon.

Specifically, when the Spaniard was asked about transfers, he gave a very interesting response.

What’s the story?

Well, on the topic of transfers, Arteta said: “If you ask me what I want, it’s 22 outfield players and three goalkeepers.”

Now, as things stand, Arsenal only have 18 outfield players, so the 40-year-old has effectively confirmed he wants at least four new signings.

It could even be more.

Alexandre Lacazette, Mohamed Elneny and Eddie Nketiah find themselves out of contract in June, so if they fail to sign extensions, the Gunners could even be looking for seven new additions.

That would be quite the spending spree, especially after big money was spent on the likes of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Ødegaard last summer.

Nevertheless, most of Arteta and Edu’s signings from the summer of 2021 have shone this season, so the hierarchy should have no concerns about backing them again.

Potential Arsenal signings

With up to seven new faces potentially arriving at the Emirates Stadium, it’s sure to be a busy summer, but who could arrive?

Well, Foot Mercato believe a meeting has taken place between Arsenal and Real Madrid over a loan deal for Eden Hazard, which would be a very interesting signing.

In terms of replacing Lacazette and Nketiah, the Gunners could sign Marcus Rashford or Paulo Dybala, with both forwards linked.

It was 90min who revealed that Arsenal want the Manchester United attacker, whereas Corriere dello Sport claimed Dybala is a target.

In defence, RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol could be arriving, although the Gunners face competition from Tottenham.

If Arteta looks to improve his midfield, then Wolves maestro Ruben Neves could end up in north London too – the Evening Standard believe Arsenal want to sign him.

Keep an eye on developments at Arsenal this summer, as it looks sure to be a very busy summer.
