Sunderland’s Will Grigg has emerged as a target for League One rivals Oxford United with manager Karl Robinson confirming his interest in the struggling striker, as reported by the Oxford Mail.
While MK Dons boss Russell Martin rubbished reports linking him with a move for the Northern Ireland international earlier this week, Robinson has now done precisely the opposite.
With just three days left before the January transfer window closes, a resurgent Oxford side are looking to strengthen their front line with a striker who fired Wigan Athletic to the third-tier title in 2018.
Sunderland are keen to get Grigg of the wage bill, with Scottish Premiership stars Ross Stewart and Kevin Nisbet lined up as potential replacements (Northern Echo).
So you would imagine that Robinson’s comments will be music to the ears of everyone at the Stadium of Light.

“I want him to fight with Matty Taylor and Sam Winnall for a place up front,” the Oxford boss said when asked about his interest in the 29-year-old Grigg.
It is uncertain at this stage whether The Us want to sign Grigg on a full-time deal or whether they would prefer a short-term loan.
The Echo claims that the striker’s hefty pay-packet has already scuppered a potential move to goal-shy Shrewsbury Town.
