Niko Giesselmann has indicated that he wants to stay at Bundesliga surprise-packages Union Berlin when quizzed about a potential move to Scottish Premiership giants Celtic, speaking to Kicker.
Who would you rather play for? The sixth best team in Germany or the top dogs in Scotland?
That is a decision Giesselmann has to make with Ange Postecoglou’s title-chasing Hoops looking to snap up the 30-year-old left-back before he becomes a free-agent at the end of this season.
Giesselmann remains a key figure for an Union Berlin side who continue to confound the critics, qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history last term.
Union could even go one step further this time around, currently sitting just three points adrift of the Champions League places.
With three goals and four assists to his name from left-back, Giesselmann’s fine form has attracted interest from outside of the German capital.
Will Celtic sign Niko Giesselmann?
BILD reported last week that Celtic were eyeing up a potential cut-price deal for the late-blooming German
But, when asked about Celtic’s interest, Giesslemann suggested that he sees Scotland’s top-flight as something of a step down from the Bundesliga.
“I want to play at a high level for as long as possible,” said Giesselmann, who is aware of the reports linking him with the Glasgow giants.

“The Bundesliga is one of the top leagues.”
Celtic have reportedly agreed a deal to bring in Yosuke Ideguchi from J-League outfit Gamba Osaka for around £850,000.
Postecoglou’s side are also expected to sign Reo Hatate on a free transfer after the 24-year-old helped Kawasaki Frontale storm to the top-flight title.
Hatate is equally comfortable in central midfield or at left-back, though it remains to be seen whether Postecoglou views him as competition for David Turnbull and Tom Rogic or as support for Greg Taylor on the flank.
