Alan Shearer praised Reiss Nelson’s ‘magic’ and ‘special’ moment for Arsenal following his stoppage-time winner against Bournemouth on Saturday, as broadcast on MatchDay Extra on PL Productions (04/03/23 at 8:05 pm).
The Premier League’s all-time top scorer added that ‘no one’ has given Nelson a mention this season and he’ll probably ‘never’ score a more valuable goal in his career.
After going 2-0 down to a team in the Premier League’s relegation zone, and also conceding after nine seconds, those in Arsenal colours were fearing the worst.
Next month, the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City await the Gunners. They don’t want to be dropping points heading into those matches.
But, however which they come, as long as they come, is all that matters.
And Nelson provided that with a pint-point, composed and possibly title-winning goal, which left Shearer impressed.
“I very much doubt he will ever score a more important goal,” said Shearer. “If Arsenal go on to win the title, this will be looked upon as one of the games that they did it.
“It’s moments like that, pieces of magic like that, you have to cling to. You have to hope to and you just have to find something special.
“For it to be his only fourth career goal. He only played 64 minutes this season. I mean, you couldn’t write that script.
“No-one has given him a mention all season. So, for him to then come in and play a part, as he has done. You can see his reaction, his teammates and all the fans towards him. Incredible.”
ARSENAL AREN’T GOING AWAY
Manchester City beat Newcastle United 2-0 in the earlier kick-off. They probably expected a routine win for the Gunners against Bournemouth.
But, when the scoreline read 2-0, it probably would have lifted them up out of their seat.
However, by the time Nelson fired in the winner, they would have been firmly sitting back down and deflated because this is a statement of serious intent from the London club.
