Alasdair Gold claims on his YouTube channel that Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been playing with a “fair few injuries” over the course of the last 12 months. His fitness levels are deemed “ridiculous”.

Hojbjerg, 26, clocked up 48 appearances for Spurs last season, proving to be a mainstay for both Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte. He is a key part of Conte’s midfield, alongside Rodrigo Bentancur in the middle.

Despite a dip in form during in the middle of the season, which saw him benched in a 2-0 loss to Wolves, Hojbjerg has been one of Tottenham’s best players over the course of the last two years. He has already played 101 times.

Football London reporter Gold claims that Hojbjerg has been playing with injury at times during the season. But the midfielder’s desire and refusal to let the side down saw him to continue going, through the pain barrier.

“I’ve been speaking to people, he’s incredibly intense. He is part of the leadership group, very inspirational character. I understand, he’s played with a fair few injuries but he didn’t want to let the team down. Fitness wise, he’s ridiculous.”

Hojbjerg is a leader. As Gold says, he is a player that is part of the leadership group and the kind of player that others will look up to. To go through the pain barrier, is the kind of player Conte wants.

The Dane has continued his form into the Nations League matches with Denmark. It is absolutely crucial, that amid interest from Jose Mourinho’s Roma, Tottenham keep Hojbjerg ahead of the 22-23 campaign.
