Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has shared how Nuno Espirito Santo plans on using Takehiro Tomiyasu amid reports he’s close to joining Tottenham.

Tomiyasu, who has previously been described as a ‘warrior’ is a tenacious defender who can play as either a centre-back or a right-back, and that versatility is why Nuno likes him.

Indeed, Nuno plans on using Tomiyasu as a key member of his squad as his versatility will work well in his system.

What’s been said?

Gold says that Tomiyasu will be used as both a right-back and a centre-back allowing Nuno’s Spurs to implement a very fluid system.

“He’s essentially a centre-back, but he’s also a defensive right-back, think Japhet Tanganga, think Juan Foyth, that kind of mould,” Gold said.

“The logic I understand for going for Tomiyasu is that he will tuck in to allow the Nuno system to quickly flip between a back four and a back three and it will allow Sergio Reguilon to bomb on as a wing-back, which we know will get the best out of him.”

Very exciting

This should have Spurs fans up and down the country very excited.

Not only is Tomiyasu a talented defender, but his arrival could see Spurs get the best out of Reguilon going forward if he is to operate in a more attacking role.

Tomiyasu is reportedly close to joining Tottenham, and if what Gold is hearing is correct, he could be a vital member of the squad during the Nuno era.

Fingers crossed we get some more positive news about the Japan international joining Tottenham in the near future.
