Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Cristian Romero’s situation at Tottenham and when his move will be made permanent.

The Argentine signed for Spurs last summer on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy the centre-back.

The defender has reported back to Spurs for pre-season, so it’s fair to assume that this option to buy will be, or already has been, triggered, but, perhaps strangely, there’s been no official announcement on that front.

However, according to Gold, the club do plan to make an official announcement on Romero signing, and that could come soon.

What’s been said?

Gold spoke about Romero’s permanent signing.

“Hopefully we’ll have the Romero announcement soon. It was one of those where I wondered whether or not it would just naturally become a permanent move, but I understand that Spurs are hoping to do some kind of announcement or something, but keep an eye on that. They could change their mind and that could go in naturally,” Gold said.

Signing of the summer

Yes, this is a transfer that was all sewn up 12 months ago, but with Romero joining permanently this summer, it’s still fair to describe this as a potential signing of the summer.

Indeed, the Argentine was absolutely brilliant for Spurs last season, and even with the likes of Yves Bissouma and Richarlison through the door, it’s hard to imagine Tottenham signing anyone who will make as big of an impact as Romero this season.

It may not be the most exciting transfer of the window. After all, the defender has been in north London for over a year now, but it could be the best signing Spurs, or any club, make.

Of course, this is all just a formality, every Spurs fan knows that Romero is a Tottenham player, but we should be getting an official announcement on this one soon.
