Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has made a claim about Rafa Benitez and Everton.
The Toffees have been linked with a move for Benitez in recent days, and it seems as though the Spaniard’s agent wants him to return to Merseyside.
What’s been said?
Castles was running through the managerial merry-go-round that is currently ongoing, and he says Benitez’s agent is pushing him towards taking the Everton job.
“There are a few coaches looking for positions. Rafa Benitez, I understand he’s being pushed very aggressively by his agent towards Everton, and there is a degree of interest there,” Castle said.
“I think one agent, Kia Joorabchian, will be very important in this process because he has the ear of Farhad Moshiri.”
Controversial
It looks as though there’s a chance of Benitez becoming the next Everton manager, and that’s bound to be a controversial appointment.
Benitez of course has strong ties to Liverpool, and with the Toffees being their bitter rivals, it may be hard for Everton supporters to stomach this appointment.
However, aside from club allegiances, Benitez is a world-class coach who could easily fill Carlo Ancelotti’s boots.
He’s a Champions League winner who has managed the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Napoli, so his CV is almost just as impressive as Ancelotti’s.
It remains to be seen who Everton appoint as their new manager.
