Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League season gets underway this Saturday, and while many are excited to see Spurs’ new signings in action against Southampton, there’s one summer signing who may not appear this weekend.

Indeed, according to Alasdair Gold, Yves Bissouma is a doubt heading into the opening game of the season after picking up a hamstring tweak against Roma over the weekend.

Bissouma, of course, arrived from Brighton this summer in a £25m deal, and he was seen as a bit of a coup at the time.

Sadly though, he may have to wait a little longer to make his competitive debut for Tottenham.

What’s been said?

Gold shared details of Bissouma’s injury.

“Midfield will be a slight issue in terms of cover on Saturday. I understand that Yves Bissouma picked up a hamstring tweak against Roma. He had ice on his hamstring after the game. He’s a doubt for Saturday which is what I’m being told which doesn’t suggest he’s likely to miss much more than that. It’s more of a precautionary thing but at the moment I’m told he’s a doubt,” Gold said.

No luck

Bissouma may only have been a Spurs player for a couple of months, but he’s already having a run of rotten luck since joining Tottenham.

The midfielder contracted covid during Spurs’ tour of South Korea – hampering his pre-season preparations, and while he’s been getting up to speed as of late, this injury is yet another blow.

Bissouma will have hoped to hit the ground running after joining the north London club, but, so far, it’s been something of a stop-start beginning so far for the Malian.

The midfielder will eventually become a key player for Spurs, but he could do with having a bit more luck on the injury and fitness front.
