Ajax will not stand in Nicolas Tagliafico’s way if the reported Arsenal and Leicester City target wants to leave the Johan Cruyff Arena this summer, director of football Marc Overmars has told AjaxTV.
After Hakim Ziyech followed in the footsteps of Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong by graduating from one of the game’s most feted finishing schools, the reigning Eredivisie champions may now be forced to let yet another star player pack his bags.
The Sun reports that Argentina international Tagliafico is desperate to prove himself in a major European league at the peak of his powers.
The £20 million left-back is open to the idea of joining Arsenal, even if Mikel Arteta’s side have bombed spectacularly in front of the watching world since Project Re-start got underway.
And Overmars, the Gunners legend turned transfer market specialist, accepts that Tagliafico may have played his last game in Ajax colours.
“With Nico, he has reached the age that I understand that he wants to take the next step,” Overmars said.

“If that chance is there, then I think you shouldn’t take it away – if the conditions are good for all parties.”
Le10 Sport reports that Leicester are also interested in Tagliafico, who’s swashbuckling style appears to make him the perfect fit for ‘Brendanball’.
The diminutive full-back produced an impressive five goals and seven assists in 2019/20 alone and could prove that there is life after Ben Chilwell at the King Power.
