Alasdair Gold has told a Football London Q&A session that Ligue 1 side Monaco are considering a possible deal for Tottenham’s Davinson Sanchez. Gold also suggests Spurs could, in turn, look at Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile.

Sanchez, 26, managed 32 appearances for Spurs last season – but he was first reserve in Antonio Conte’s side. Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies were first choice – leaving the Colombian to warm the Spurs bench.

With Sanchez entering the final two years of his Spurs contract, he might be considered a sell-able asset this summer. Monaco, who finished third in Ligue 1 and will enter the Champions League at the third qualifying round, are keen.

Gold says as much when answering a question during a Q&A on the Football London website. The Spurs journalist also claims that Antonio Conte’s side might look at Badiashile – a left-footed defender for Monaco.

“I understand Monaco have shown an interest in Davinson Sanchez and I do wonder whether Spurs might look at Benoit Badiashile, their France U21 international left-sided centre-back if any discussions take place.”

Gold: Monaco considering Sanchez, Tottenham could look at Badiashile

Badiashile has been linked with Newcastle and West Ham recently. Rated at £35million, he has openly spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League. Left-footed, he is just what Spurs are looking for.

If Spurs could use Sanchez in a deal to get Badiashile, it ticks so many boxes. Spurs bring in competition for Davies, a player with huge potential that will eventually overtake the Welshman. They also sort out Sanchez’s future.

The Colombian has not lived up to his hefty price tag, but his sale could still prove important for Spurs in the transfer market. It would also remove his wages from the list.
