Mikel Arteta has told Arsenal’s official website that he expressed how proud he was of his side in the dressing room last night, despite their defeat to Wolves.

Arsenal fell to a 2-1 loss at Molineux, and the circumstances of their defeat were very frustrating.

Arsenal looked in complete control of the game, before David Luiz gave away a penalty and was sent off just before the half-time break.

Things then went from bad to worse, as the Gunners were reduced to nine men when Bernd Leno inexplicably handled the ball outside of the box.

But, even with the numerical disadvantage, Arsenal kept persevering.

And Arteta says that he simply couldn’t fault his side’s efforts at full-time.

“I told them that I’m so proud of them because of the way they reacted in the second half, the way they tried to come out and still tried to win the game, it was magnificent,” he said.

“At half-time they were all really animated and encouraging each other to rebuild as a team and try to still win it. Even with nine players, the way they tried was incredible.”

Despite Arteta’s positive words, there was a feeling that Arsenal really threw away three points yesterday.

The result ends a strong run of form for the Gunners, although there were still positives to take, due to the quality of their first half showing.
