According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg, Liverpool are now interested in appointing Sven Mislintat as their new Sporting Director.
Julian Ward is leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, and according to this report, the Reds will look towards the former Arsenal Sporting Director as his replacement.
Mislintat is a logical choice for the Reds, he knows Jurgen Klopp very well from their time together at Borussia Dortmund.
Not only did Mislintat work with Klopp at Dortmund, he actually actively helped the Liverpool manager decide on one signing back in 2021, recommending Ozan Kabak to Klopp during the Reds’ centre-back crisis at that time.

Mislintat recommended Kabak
The German spoke about advising Klopp on the Kabak deal.
“I told Jurgen that he’s a top lad,” Mislintat told The Athletic.
“Top mentality, top character, top aggression. He’s a (Dejan) Lovren-type player. Very good in the air, both defensively and in the opposition box.
“He played his best stuff for us (at Stuttgart). He hasn’t been able to show how good he is at Schalke. He still needs to learn but he has all the skills for Klopp to make a success of him.”
Miss
This won’t fill many Liverpool fans with the world of confidence.
Mislintat recommended Kabak to Klopp, and it’s fair to say that the Turkish defender wasn’t the Reds’ best signing in recent years.
He really didn’t take to life at Anfield, eventually dropping below Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams in the pecking order and he would eventually end up playing for a relegated Norwich City side the very next season.
If Mislintat is to replace Ward at Anfield, he needs to look toward bringing in better players than Kabak.
