Park Ji-Sung cannot believe he is back at Manchester United, in an ambassador role.
South Korean star Park Ji-Sung joined Manchester United in 2005 from PSV Eindhoven in a deal believed to be worth £4 million.
During his time at the club he gained a reputation for his tireless work and for being one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s go to guys in the big matches.
For that reason he remains a fan favourite with the club. Park left United after seven years in 2012 – joining QPR. But injuries got the better of his time in West London and after a return to PSV he retired in May this year, because of persistent knee injuries.
But with the sale of Shinji Kagawa the club have needed a way back into the Asian market – this may very well be that entrance point. Today will see the South Korean presented to fans on the Old Trafford pitch before the game with Everton – to be awarded with an honorary ambassadorial role by legendary manager Ferguson.
And he has been speaking to the club about the role, admitting it is a huge honour.
He told ManUtd.com:
“I’m very happy to be back. I got very used to Manchester – its atmosphere, its weather – when I played here so it’s very familiar to me. I felt very comfortable when I got off the train today.”
“I thought my relationship with Manchester United was finished because it’s a huge club and I am just one of the many players who come in, play here and then leave. So when the club asked me to become an ambassador, I couldn’t believe it but of course, I was happy to accept. It’s a huge, huge honour for me.”
He can expect a warm welcome from United fans this afternoon, who will be pleased to see one of their favourites back on the hallowed turf.
