Jamie O’Hara has claimed that he thought Davinson Sanchez was ‘finished’ at Tottenham, as he told Sky Sports (04/01/22 at 7:50 pm).

But the former Spurs midfielder thinks Sanchez has changed and he has been ‘superb’ under Antonio Conte’s stewardship.

The 25-year-old has been a regular for Conte since his arrival and even scored the winning goal for his club as they beat Watford on New Year’s Day.

The next step will be showcasing that performance away at Chelsea today in what will be a mouthwatering EFL Cup first-leg semi-final showdown.

Nonetheless, O’Hara felt that there is ‘a lot of deadwood’ at Spurs, but he thinks those players are now showing promise once more.

“There is a lot of deadwood at Spurs,” said O’Hara. “But he (Conte) is actually getting the best out of some of that deadwood.

“Players have come back into the side and you are thinking ‘these have got something to offer still’.

“I think Dele Alli’s done okay. He has had a sort of resurgence again. Players like Davinson Sanchez, who I thought would be finished under Conte, he has been superb. Ben Davies has been brilliant, for sure.

Unless Conte opts to make changes, Sanchez will be expected to start at Stamford Bridge in a few hours time.

And it seems as though the Colombian will come up against a certain Romelu Lukaku after the drama surrounding the Belgian striker.

Thomas Tuchel axed the Chelsea hitman from his side’s 2-2 draw at Liverpool over the weekend because of a forthright interview he gave to Sky Italia.

But it now seems as though he will be back in the squad to face Spurs and there’s no doubt he will be hungry to prove his doubters wrong.
