Gary Neville has said on Sky Sports Football that he is not surprised that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has decided to stick with Steve Bruce.
Newcastle suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion away from home in the Premier League last Friday evening.
Following the result, there were calls for the Magpies to dismiss Bruce and bring in a new manager to stave off relegation to the Championship at the end of the season.
However, as reported by Sky Sports, The Shields Gazette and The Chronicle, Newcastle owner Ashley has decided to stick with Bruce.
Former Manchester United defender Neville is not surprised at the English businessman’s decision, but he has added that he does not think that Ashley expects the team to be struggling for survival in the Premier League.
Neville said on Sky Sports Football: “I am not surprised. I think that Mike Ashley is likely to do that at this moment in time and not panic.
“I thinks he expects to be down there, not down there right near the bottom and not certainly fighting for relegation.
“I don’t think he expects to be in the top half of the table. The injuries in the last few weeks, I think, have been difficult for Steve Bruce to contend with. But they have got a real fight, they have got a real fight.”
Staying positive
Newcastle are in real danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season, but the fans should stay positive.
The Magpies do have some very good players, and it is time that they step up their game.
There are still enough games to pull away from the bottom three, and perhaps the international break will help the team come together and hatch a plan on how to win matches on a consistent basis.
