Kevin Campbell has told talkSPORT [broadcast 21/10, 6am] that he can see Cristiano Ronaldo joining Chelsea on a loan from Manchester United in January.
The 37-year-old superstar’s future at Old Trafford is in some doubt after he left the dugout of Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur before the final whistle.
As a result there are fresh questions over the Portugal international’s role at Manchester United under Erik ten Haag.
Chelsea were linked with a summer swoop for the £515,000-a-week superstar [Football London].
And Campbell has told talkSPORT that he can see it materialising this winter on the back of this development.
He said: “He said: “I think there might be a loan in January. He wants to play Champions League football. Of the four teams that are in the Champions League there’s one – only one – team he can go to. It’s not going to be Spurs. It’s not going to be Liverpool. Yes [it could be Chelsea]. No, not inside info.”
It’s no secret that the Stamford Bridge outfit are extremely ambitious under new owner Todd Boehly, who has already made his way through one manager in West London.
But at the moment there seems to be excellent harmony among Graham Potter’s side and the English boss might not want to risk upsetting that by bringing in Ronaldo.
Outstanding as the former Real Madrid attacker may continue to be, Chelsea are blessed with excellent options up front at the moment and is there any point bringing in the Portuguese icon if Potter, like Ten Haag, cannot guarantee him regular football?
